I’m a stay at home so, yeah, you can probably guess that we’re living on a tight budget. I’ve always been a frugal gal but I knew I would have to go all super hero thrift when I wasn’t bringing in any income but there were areas of our budget that I completely ignored because I had on my blinders. Lat week when I was going to pay a bill, I had an “aha!” moment and put my super thrift gloves on and saved money, over $500 in an hour. Here’s what I did.
Changed Auto + Home Insurance companies:
Mr. Bejelly and I drive old paid off cars. He has a 88 Toyota Camry wagon and I’m now driving a 96 Honda Odyssey. I drive maybe 20 miles a week and he just commutes to work. No accidents, no tickets either on our record. Last week, I got our insurance bill for the month and it went up and I finally decided to start getting quotes with the same amounts on our current policy. I’ve been a loyal customer of State Farm since the green age of 16 and I did give them the chance to keep my business but they came nowhere near the quote I got from Liberty Mutual. My insurance costs are dropping $41 dollars a month so I saved $369 for the rest of year, $492 for the year contract.
Shake the Cable Jar:
Every 6 months I call my cable company and tell them I’m going to cancel my service because of the cost. The always cut the cost of my service. I’ve heard that if you go to the cable office with your box you’ll get an even better deal. I saved $25 off my bill for the next six months so that works up to $150
That equals $642 of saved money that is staying in our pocket. How have you saved money?
